NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha on Sunday has passed two farm bills . The upper house has passed the Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, amid protest by the Opposition. The Rajya Sabha passed two bills that aim to transform agriculture in the country and  raise farmer income by removing restrictions on sale and transportation of farm output. Farmers will have the option to sell their products at other places in addition to the Mandis,
The opposition and some farmer groups have raised questions about pricing of their produce under contract farming. They have also raised concerns over disputes with big companies. These bills will now be sent to the President of India for assent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that there will be no change in minimum support price (MSP) and this bill will benefit the farmers. The union government has taken several steps to ensure that income of farmers increase,” said the agriculture minister NS Tomar said in the Rajya Sabha
